Man-Child

刚出了一部卖座的电影叫Ted，主人公是一个非常不成熟的男人(a man-child)。据说这类有关man-children的电影最近很受欢迎。去年新闻里闹得沸沸腾腾的Charlie Sheen 算是典型的man-child.
没找到好的man-child图片，倒是下载了这张供大家娱乐。-：）

攻其不备

Tom Cruise 的太太在他远在冰岛拍戏时，提出离婚要求，媒体说 She blindsided Tom Cruise by filling for divorce.  blindside - 出其不意地袭击。

Tough It Out

我们中国人大多认为止痛药不好，万不得已不吃 。 美国人不这样，有疼痛就吃药 ，没必要死撑。Take the pain relievers.  No need to tough it out.

拿着袋子

最近在听一本书叫State of Denial: Bush at War, 讲的是小布什政府打伊拉克的前后史实，书中有人说 I will be left holding the bag.
Left holding the bag 指出事后被留下来顶罪。

开夜车

放假前有个学生要随学校乐队去外州参加活动，问要作业带去做，我说看样子你没时间呢，他说: "I know I'll just have to pull an all-nighter."
To pull an all-nighter - 开夜车，通宵达旦地学习或工作。

A Real Trooper

A real trooper - 顽强不息者。
今天听一个朋友这样评价他患了癌症的妻子："She is a real trooper."
trooper 原意是骑兵，州警等。

心地善良

year book 里还有毕业生家长的赠言，我今年有个非常好的助教，他的父母说:"You have a heart of gold."  这个孩子真的心地善良。Someone with a heart of gold is a genuinely kind and caring person.
